CLIMATE CHANGE IMPACT AND ADAPTATION PROGRAM

In July 2007, the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP) launched a Climate Change Impacts and Adaptation Program funded by Natural Resources Canada (NRCan), in cooperation with NRCan's Earth Sciences Sector, "Enhancing Resilience in a Changing Climate" Program.

The project is made up of the following five components:

  • development of a CIP policy on climate change
  • development of Continuous Professional Learning (CPL) modules on climate change
  • research fellowships and studio project awards
  • Community Capacity for Adaptation
  • organization of a Northern symposium on climate change (July 2008)

Stephen Walker and Misty Carson recently represented the MPPI affiliate in Ottawa on July 10-12, 2009 to review materials being developed for a Continuous Learning module on Climate Change. Stephen and Misty will be delivering a two-day workshop next year to all interested Planners and individuals on how to plan for climate change.

Below is a link to one of the power point presentations that outlines CIP's approach to mainstreaming climate change tools for the professional planning community.
