Eligibility
Membership in MPPI is available to anyone with a university degree
who is working in the planning field. For membership purposes CIP
classifies university degrees into the following categories:
1. RECOGNIZED CIP currently recognizes eighteen
university degree programs across Canada (The Master of City Planning
program at the Faculty of Architecture at the University of Manitoba
is recognized by CIP).
2. RELATED A degree in a related field including,
architecture, landscape architecture, geography, and environmental
studies.
3. UNRELATED Any other degree from a university
or a degree granting institution.
To fulfill the requirements for full membership the applicant must
have two to six years of responsible planning experience and must
have successfully completed an oral interview and a written examination.
The length of responsible professional planning experience depends
on the type of degree held by the applicant. Applicants with a recognized
degree are exempted from the written examination requirement. In
lieu of the written examination, a portfolio option is available
for applicants without a recognized degree in planning.
Provisional membership is available to anyone with a recognized
degree in planning or anyone with a degree and who is currently
employed in the planning field. Student membership is available
to any student enrolled in a recognized planning degree program.
