Canada Green Building Council: It's the Money

May 2nd - 3rd: Geothermal Heat Pump Awareness Workshops
Due to the success of the geothermal workshops held in May 2005, Manitoba Hydro's Earth Power Program will be hosting an additional four Geothermal Heat Pump Awareness Workshops across various regions in Manitoba in 2006. These workshops are targeted at both residential and commercial customers looking for more information on geothermal heat pump technology and financing available through Manitoba Hydro’s Earth Power Program.

International Association for Public Participation (IAP2)
This two-day module of the IAP2 Certificate Program provides an introduction to the foundations of effective public participation programs. IAP2 has worked with practitioners from around the world to develop foundational tools that transcend national and cultural boundaries. Even advanced practitioners will find useful tools and techniques to assist in working with the public and clients to establish effective public participation. These tools are presented in an interactive and experiential learning environment that provides students with the opportunity to explore their own public participation challenges with their instructor and peers.

2004

Chautauqua 2004: An Extravaganza of Participatory Planning and Design
September 29 to October 2, 2004

Hosted by the Department of City Planning, University of Manitoba
Registration Package

This event is a four-day extravaganza, which seeks to build bridges between professionals and community. It provides an opportunity for individuals, and groups to participate in various workshops that focus on ways to effectively and creatively engage diverse communities. Key topics will address issues related to planning with aboriginal communities, creative community engagement, cultural development and capacity building, universal design, community design, safe city design,
environmental ethics, and gender equity. The event will showcase a number of leading professionals from around the world who are at the forefront of community planning and design.

Guest facilitators and speakers include Wendy Sarkissian (Australia), Leslie Kanes Weisman (New York), Christina Heximer (Detroit), Crystal Laborero, John Hutton and Lorna Monkman (Winnipeg).

Workshops, lectures, etc. are open to non-profit organizations, government, professionals, students and the general public. Non-profit organizations may be eligible for a 50% reduction on workshop fees.

2002

Kids Can Plan Event
Held May 22, 2002

A joint initiative between MPPI and Beaumont Elementary School, where a grade 6 class learned about the planning profession and made a plan to redevelop a downtown site. Their final plans were on display at the City Re-emerging Exhibition at 389 Main Street on June 8 to 16, 2002.
