6th annual MPPI/MALA Making the Links Golf Tournament

The annual Taking the Pulse of Practice event was held on Thursday, April 16th at the MPPI Offices - 2nd Floor 137 Bannatyne Avenue

City Planning students gave a summary presentation of their Case in Point projects (student-practitioner collaborations). Practitioners who took part in these projects can report their participation to earn CPL learning units (please refer to the CPL Guide for details).

Manitoba Professional Planners Institute Annual General Meeting November 6, 2008
Thanks to the members who attended this year's AGM held at the Hotel Fort Garry on November 6, 2008. A total of 32 members took in a panel presentation on recent trends in the real estate market, a compressed General Meeting and election of officers, an opportunity to socialize over dinner and a thought-provoking presentation by Glen Murray, now President and CEO of the Canadian Urban Institute in Toronto. The 5th annual MPPI/MALA "Making the Links" Golf Tournament will be held on Thursday June 12, 2008 at the Lorette Golf Course.

Martin Grady, Zoning & Permits Administrator and Valdene Buckley, Manager of Regulatory Reform will provide a 30 minute presentation on the new by-law followed by a question and answer session.

February 24: Proposed Regulation Defining Water Quality Management Zones for Nutrients Under the Water Protection Act.
The Canadian Water Resources Association (CWRA) presents Dwight Williamson, Director of the Water Sciences and Management branch at the department of Water Stewardship. Mr. Williamson will discuss the first regulation to be proposed under the Water Protection Act—Water Quality Management Zones—in particular, how these land-based zones were defined and why they will help protect water systems from excessive run-off of the plant nutrients, nitrogen, and phosphorus.

April 11th - Film Premiere of ‘Detroit Collaborative Design Center: A Praxis of Architecture'
Dr. Sheri Blake, Associate Professor, UofM Department of City Planning, presents her documentary film about the Detroit Collaborative Design Centre that challenges the myths about participatory design. The design center is a non-profit architecture firm that works exclusively with non-profit community based organizations and local stakeholders.

MPPI 'Much More than an AGM' Event

This year's AGM was held with planners and friends at the beautiful
country setting of Green Gates Country House & Lounge
(6945 Roblin Blvd).
MPPI Executive Committee (Council) has reviewed the current MPPI
By-Law and proposes amendments to the By-Law that are believed to
better reflect the needs and actual current operations of the Institute.
